Judgement day upon Huskies heading into Eugene

Judgement day for Lorenzo Romar and the Huskies vs. Oregon

Judgement day for Lorenzo Romar and the Huskies vs. Oregon

It’s amazing how fast things change in a week in college basketball. A week ago at this time the Huskies were 4-0 in conference play, with a home game against an 0-5 Utah team that struggled mightily up to that point. Well the Huskies got out to a slow start and never recovered leading to a 74-65 defeat. Then Wednesday night was another winnable game on the road versus Oregon State (yes a winnable road game for the Huskies, I’m shocked too that those are words I typed). Well same story different night, the Huskies went down by as many as 19 in the first half, but pulled to within one in the second half, only to fall short 74-66. Saturday brings in a whole new animal, 16th ranked Oregon, on the road, with a two-game losing streak threatening to become three on the line. Oh by the way Oregon in 17-2 and 6-0 in conference play. Judgement day has arrived for the 2012-2013 Washington Huskies

This is as close to a must-win game for the Huskies as it gets before the Pac-12 tournament. After Saturday the Huskies come home to play sixth ranked Arizona, and Arizona State who is currently tied with the Huskies in conference play at 4-2. So the schedule doesn’t get any easier, especially with a visit to the LA schools the following weekend.

With a win this could be a season changing win, and potential program changing win for the Huskies. An example was when the Huskies went to Oregon State in the 2003-2004 season. The Huskies at that point were 0-5 in conference play and struggling. The Huskies were down by 16 with just over 10 minutes to go and in serious danger of… Continue reading

Chip Kelly Finally Takes the Philadelphia Eagles Job and Seahawks and Huskies Fans Should All Be Happy About It

The Oregon Ducks will never be the same without Chip Kelly. If sanctions come down like the rest of the Pac 12 hopes then they wouldn’t have been anyways.

Today was a good day for Huskies and Seahawks fans alike. The morning started with the news that the Chicago Bears had hired Marc Trestman, a CFL head coach, thus eliminating Darrell Bevell from their search. But the better news came later in the day when we found out that Chip Kelly, the czar of the no-huddle, the evader of sanctions, the almighty ruler of reneging had taken the Philadelphia Eagles job.

I mean, Chip Kelly made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers job look like Manti Te’o’s girlfriend, he made the Eagles feel like Notre Dame’s defense in the BCS championship, and now he leaves Oregon feeling a bit like anyone who still supports Lance Armstrong.

To review those were non-existent, non-existent, and late-to-the-fucking-party.

Chip Kelly is no longer a coach in the Pac 12, and also good news is that Gus Bradley, who was considered the front-runner for the Eagles job until the eleventh hour hiring of Kelly, remains the Seahawks defensive coordinator.

Of Chip Kelly, in a post titled “The Chip Kelly Clusterfuck,” one-time NASORB writer Sean Kramer had this to say:

Last night while most of us were enjoying the NFC Championship game tweets started to surface that Chip Kelly was abandoning ship at Oregon in order to jump on the ship at Raymond James to coach the Bucs.

Of course, this came with rumors of Chip Kelly jumping ship because of Pete Carroll – Seahawk precedents. Is Chip just leaving before the NCAA drops the hammer on Oregon?  Well, he didn’t leave. He’s staying at Oregon, hypothetical sanctions or not.

But what was really… Continue reading

Washington Huskies 2013 Football Schedule Announced

Steve Sarkisian heads into a critical 2013 season needing a fast start and sustained success.

As everyone is preparing for the big game tomorrow, I’m playing a little catch up as the Huskies 2013 football schedule was announced. This upcoming season is a very important season in Huskies history as the Huskies will reopen Husky Stadium this season after a season away. This season is also a very important season for the Steve Sarkisian tenure following a 7-6 season that closed with an Apple Cup loss to WSU, and a loss to Boise State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas. For the first time though is Sark’s tenure it appears that he will not have a non-conference ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. As we all dream that the Huskies will be back in Rose Bowl and potential national championship discussions in the coming years, this upcoming season is one of high expectations that will get them on the right track to get back to the glory days.

2013 Washington Huskies Schedule

8-31-2013 Boise State

9-14-2013 @ Illinois -played at Soldier Field

9-21-2013 Idaho State

9-28-2013 Arizona

10-5-2013 @ Stanford

10-12-2013 Oregon

10-19-2013 @ Arizona State

10-26-2013 California

11-9-2013 Colorado

11-15-2013 @ UCLA

11-23-2013 @ Oregon State

11-29-2013 Washington State

12-7-2013 Pac-12 Championship Game

We’ve known the non-conference schedule for a couple of years, but Thursday was the release of the full schedule and three things stuck out to me.

1. A fast start is needed

With four very winnable game before going to Stanford, the Huskies need to start fast this year. If you go to Stanford (who will more than likely be 4-0) with a record of 4-0 they will send a message early saying these aren’t the same Huskies from years past.

Huskies Use Big Run, Great Rebounding to Knock off Cal

Waiter, one order of crow please.

The Washington Huskies (10-5, 2-0) used a 16-2 run to close out the first half, and 20 offensive rebounds to knock off the California Golden Bears (9-6, 1-2) Wednesday night 62-47 at Haas Pavilion. C.J. Wilcox lead the Huskies with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Aziz N’Diaye had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

“Right when conference started. We know we have to make a really good run in our conference to get to where we want to go.” – C.J. Wilcox

The first half started out going back and forth with four lead changes and seven times the game being tied the first 13 minutes. Then with the game tied at 18 and with 7:07 to go in the first half the Huskies started a 16-0 run that lasted about four and a half minutes and giving the Huskies a 34-18 lead. At the half the Huskies lead 34-20, amazingly shooting 0-8 on three pointers.

I was thrilled going into halftime, but this is college basketball and everyone makes a run. I was wrong as well as when predicted the Huskies would lose at least 2 of 3 on this road trip. The second half the Huskies continued to dominate the boards and buckle down defensively, holding Cal to 27 second half points, going on to win 62-47. The Huskies out rebounded Cal 48-33, with 20 of those coming on the offensive side.

With the win the Huskies move to 2-0 in conference play this season with a game at Stanford Saturday. Now I’ve been harsh of this Husky team this season at times on and off the internet. I’m still skeptical of this team, but with good reason. Cal is not what they… Continue reading

Andrews Clutch as Huskies beat WSU in Pullman

Andrew Andrews hit 4 free throws in the final 23 seconds and C.J. Wilcox had 18 points to lead the Huskies (9-5, 1-0) to a 68-63 victory over the Washington State Cougars (9-5, 0-1). Brock Motum had 15 points and Mike Ladd had 16 in the losing effort for WSU.

The first half for the Huskies was a dream start as they started out on a 9-0 run the first 5 minutes. They continued that run and got out to their biggest lead 23-6 with about 9 minutes left in the first half following an Aziz N’Diaye lay in. But WSU started it long road to get back in the game. They hung around but outscored the Huskies 21-7 the final 9 minutes to cut the lead to 34-27 at halftime.

The second half started out as a back and forth battle as the Cougs cut the lead to 3, but the Huskies answer with a 7-0 run to take it back out 10 with 15 and a half to go in the game. Back forth it went until WSU finally took the lead following Brock Motum three with 7:21 to go to give WSU a 51-50 lead ending a WSU 9-2 run. WSU got the lead up to 4 at 56-52 with 5:44, but the Huskies hung around. The Huskies took the lead for good after a Scott Suggs jumper gave the Huskies a 62-61 lead. The Cougs kept coming though cutting the lead to 64-63 with 40 seconds left, but Andrew Andrews scored 4 of his 8 points from the line leading the Huskies to a 68-63 victory.

This was a good win for UW, but any win at this point in this point in the season is good. A win, on  the road, in Pullman versus… Continue reading
