Brandon Roy – Forever a baller in our hearts

I’m just going to be up front and honest about this one. When I heard the news that Brandon Roy’s career has come to an unfortunate, sad and undeserving end… I might have cried a little.

There are some things I just won’t understand in the World. Those things include how absolute dicks like Jerramy Stevens, Venoy Overton or Darius Miles can have so much talent but piss it away being terrible individuals who aren’t appreciative of where their talent has gotten them. Maybe I’m being a little narrow in my view of this, I don’t know.

Then there’s Brandon Roy. A man, a father, a basketball player, a representative of his… Continue reading | 1 Comment

Nate Robinson shouldn’t have to choose between professionalism and loyalty

Courtesy of Sonicsgate.com

Anybody follow Nate Robinson on twitter?

If you follow him as I do you probably noticed what I guess I would classify as a controversy following the Seattle basketball icon.
“OKC aka Thunder fans are the best on the planet #handsdown #WorDaApP #OKCfans should be a #TT” Robinson tweeted following Oklahoma City’s decisive game 5 victory over Memphis.
Seattle fans erupted. But they took it incredibly out of context.

Nate had to repeatedly answer to re-tweets implying his lack of loyalty to his home town and his betrayal of the Sonics.
‘Relax y’all #Seattle is my heart n soul #WorDaApP OKC is where I hoop so they are my… Continue reading

Isaiah Thomas declares for NBA Draft: What this means for Isaiah and for UW

To put it simply, I didn’t see this coming. Being the hopeless optimistic that you have to be to survive as a sports fan in this city I believed it when all indications pointed to Isaiah coming back. Isaiah himself even proclaimed he was coming back via twitter after their disappointing season end against North Carolina.  But here it is. Isaiah is leaving, supposedly.

According to the information that we have available to us now Isaiah has not hired an agent. This immediately brings me back to the 2003-04 season when a Sophomore Nate Robinson passively tested the NBA waters, not hiring an agent, and instead returned to school for his Junior year. He ascending to a first round status after his Junior season… Continue reading

UW @ Arizona State write up – Huskies grab elusive road victory

Finally. Take a deep breath. Do you feel the relief? That’s the feeling of the Washington Huskies actually winning a Pac-10 road game against an opponent that they’re superior to.

The Dawgs downed the Sun Devils 79-62 Thursday evening to keep pace with UCLA and Arizona in the Pac-10 championship race.

Forget the fact that Arizona State is in last place in the Pac-10. This was a significant hurdle for the Washington Huskies, who after losing to Oregon for their third straight loss all of a sudden had their NCAA Tournament future in doubt.

This game was also in doubt during the first ten minutes. Lackluster rebounding and lapses in defensive focus led to easy Sun Devil buckets to begin the game. But talent won out, MBA… Continue reading

Better for Pac-10 if UW loses to Cougs in hardwood Apple Cup?

For the last couple of years now the Pac-10 has been a bit of a joke punchline when it comes to the power conference in College Basketball. Last year had to be the epitome of that when only two teams qualified for the big dance, with Cal the highest seeded at 8.

So far it seems that, this year might be more of the same. Other than Washington, there are no other ranked teams. Arizona poppin in to say hi at #25, only to have the door slammed shut by Washington. Despite beating Washington State a few days later, the Cats were shunned from the rankings.

Even Washington fell out at one point before climbing back due to their Pac-10 dominance.

But, the Pac-10 has a fighter’s… Continue reading

How Romar’s Huskies move forward without Abdul Gaddy

Abdul Gaddy heard the criticisms all off-season. The Sophomore to be had a disappointing Freshman campaign. As the second highest rated Point Guard behind Kentucky’s John Wall more was expected, especially as a starter. Instead he would be relegated to the bench relatively early in games and often be a non factor.

Meanwhile his Bellermine Prep teammate Avery Bradley had propelled himself to the first round of the NBA draft with his freshman season at Texas.

What’s wrong with Abdul Gaddy? Is he even good enough? His shooting was terrible and his passing was suspect. These are things in which he was lauded for in high school.

It seemed that Romar never had any doubts about his phenom Point guard, installing him back into the starting line… Continue reading

Time for Romarville to panic after loss to Texas A&M?

Well, let’s be real here. This one was painful. After a three point halftime lead the Dawgs were facing an almost double digit deficit with four minutes left, only to come surging back in the final minute with a golden opportunity to win it.

With 35 seconds left the Huskies held for the last shot. The best look they got was CJ Wilcox covered in the corner for what looked like a fade away three. Clank, rim. Rebound Aggies.

But alas, there was life! Isaiah Thomas made a vintage huskies hustle play when the Aggies passed the ball down court anticipating a foul when instead Thomas swooped in and took the ball the other way. However, with no timeouts and time waning down Thomas missed his opportunity to… Continue reading

Why April 30th could eventually become a UW holiday

A couple of weeks ago when me and some of my cohorts decided to hit up a husky football practice, we took a visit to the team shop afterwards. While exploring the clearance rack(since I’m broke and everything) I stumbled across a t-shirt describing the ‘Bark heard round the world.’ Of course it was referring to the 16-13 upset over then #3 USC, which of course meant Husky football was back, right?… Continue reading

Romar’s math will add up: Elston Turner to transfer

For the last few weeks now, there has been some fretting over the scholarship limit for the Husky hoops squad. With Quincy graduating, the Dawgs only had one to offer, which is going to Desmond Simmons, who signed his LOI in the fall.

Yet, the Dawgs also had a commitment from Enes Kanter, who reneged to Kentucky, and are still in hot pursuit of Terrance Jones.

Then there’s the sweet little nugget that was dropped on us two days ago with the signing of 7 foot Junior College transfer Aziz N’Diaye.

Something had to give. And, it did.

Washington’s sharp shooting specialist, and who I pegged as a key returner to a repeat Sweet 16 run, Elston Turner has decided to transfer.

The fact that somebody is… Continue reading
