Live Husky Football signing day thread
UPDATE 3:56 PM PST: Jordan Payton is going to UCLA, he committed to UW last night, but will go play for Jim Mora and the Bruins. Cyler Miles remains a Husky commit, spurning USC along the way.
WR Jordan Payton wavering? – Payton made the call official yesterday….or so it seemed. Now all of a sudden rumors are swirling about his signing with UCLA. Washington does not have his LOI in, so in his case, it is not over til its over.
QB Cyler Miles wavering? – Miles has been open to courting from USC for quite some time, and apparently it has gone all the way down to crunch time. Miles will announce at about 1 PM which school he will sent his Letter of… Continue reading
The Chip Kelly clusterfuck
This was actual a good example of journalistic diligence by the Register-Guard. It was also a Mindfuck.
The last few weeks have been an incredible personal lesson on the journalistic value of twitter and reporting “sources” on the internet. Sports journalism is evolving, forcing us all to learn how to deal with complete information overload, testing our ability to keep up with everything.
At one point last night, Chip Kelly was a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, ready to plunder Oregon’s coaching staff if they didn’t promote one of his assistants to Head Coach. It was a done deal, multiple sources cited. Mainly, the Eugene Register-Guard.
Last night while most of us were… Continue reading
Nick Montana to leave Washington
Weeks of speculation over the future of a back-up quarterback can finally come to an end. Nick Montana has officially decided to call it a career with the Huskies, and transfer out in order to find playing time. In a discussion with the Seattle Times Montana lays it out as such.
We can pretty much chalk up this news under the category “No shit Sherlock.”
The bottom line for Nick, is that this decision makes a whole lot of sense. This was pretty much coming as soon as Keith Price put a stranglehold on the starting job last fall. Let’s not… Continue reading
UW Football Pac-12 schedule begins with three weeks in hell
Thanks, Larry Scott.
Our ol’ buddy, the Commish, that orchestrated the moolas of cash that each of the twelve member institutions in the conference will enjoy via television money, released the Pac-12 football schedule today. And it’s not very favorable for Washington, depending on how you look at it.
Doozies in this schedule include a Thursday night conference opener at the Clink against a Stanford team that has absolutely tormented us during the Sark era. (Washington is 3-0 in Pac openers under Sark, however)
A Friday night contest against Cal later in the season and, of… Continue reading
The Alamo Bowl, Steve Sarkisian, and the bigger picture: What’s at stake for the Huskies?
With yesterday being Christmas and all that could only really mean a couple things.
Probably means that all the college kids such as myself that have ventured home are stuffing their faces with actual home cooked meals.
When you dip into the sports realm, today signals the beginning of the lockout shortened NBA season. Of course, I’m from Seattle and I couldn’t care less about that particular sporting league.
Instead, today signals the fact that the Washington Huskies are four days away from hitting the field against Baylor in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Personally, this is most exciting since… Continue reading
Matt Barkley to return to USC for his senior season
Yesterday Matt Barkley decided that he was going back to USC to play his senior season, and chase the one and only bowl game victory that he’ll ever have in college. Barkley figured to be one of the top quarterbacks available in the 2012 NFL draft, and probably would have been taken in the first five picks of the draft. There is something to be said for a guy who wants to help carry on a proud tradition of elite success at his college program, but also something to be said for a guy who may have managed to screw Seattle twice in one fell swoop.
You see, without Barkley the Trojans were probably… Continue reading
Robert Griffin III could be a Seahawk, how have other future NFL QBs done against the Huskies?
Robert Griffin III will be playing against the Huskies, but it may not be his last time dealing with Seattle fans.
The Huskies will match up in the Alamo Bowl against the Baylor Bears, and their quarterback, Robert Griffin III, figures to be something of a commodity come April. There is a ton of other converage that we are going to do on NFL quarterbacks, but considering that he’s the fourth quarterback that the Huskies have faced who figure to be drafted (at least), it will be interesting to see how he stacks up.
This is how the other three have performed against the Huskies:
Andrew Luck, Stanford

Washington’s embattled Senior class has left their mark on the Husky program

That picture is Autzen Stadium in August 2008. I took to the road to see Washington’s season opener with naive expectations that the Huskies would be able to compete with the Ducks and that it would be a glorious beginning to a year that would culminate in bowl eligibility for the Huskies. A halftime 10-7 score had me brimming with optimism.
I ended up leaving the stadium midway through the second half.
For kids like Jermaine Kearse, Senio Kelemente, Chris Polk, and Alameda Ta’amu, kids that are now household names for Husky fans, this was the start of Husky careers that will come full circle at CenturyLink field tomorrow.
The class of… Continue reading

Let’s talk about Keith Price
There’s a saying in football. The back-up quarterback is usually the most popular player on the team.
What’s up, Nick Montana?
Dubbed Savior 2.0. The next generation after Locker. Nick Montana was supposed to be the kid who makes us forget about the whole Jake Heaps forsaking the home town team thing.
The Huskies are a perfect 2-0 without Jake Locker, but it’s not because of the Son of Joe.
Meet Keith Price, the starting quarterback for your University of Washington Huskies.
Everything about Keith Price’s Washington career has thus far been pretty unceremonious.
417 yards and 7 touchdowns and two wins in his first two games as ‘the’ starter of the Washington Huskies might not even be enough to change that quickly. But… Continue reading
