Sounders start preseason with Portscum (Game Feed Embedded)

I haven’t worn my Rave Green Seattle Sounders FC kit since the playoffs ended. Today I’m happy to put it back on.

The Sounders start off their 2013 campaign in a way this morning with their first preseason match against rival Portland Timbers in Tuscon, Ariz. in what’s being called The Desert Friendlies, and for the most part today’s match will be just that.

Seattle manager Sigi Schmid has said that his main goals for the 9:30 a.m. match will be getting a better look at depth/trialists while also testing the fitness of his top 18.

It’s also important to remember that this is a Sounders team without the services of four impact players in Eddie Johnson, Brad Evans, Mario Martinez and Adam Johansson who are all currently on national team duty for World Cup Qualifying.

That leaves me with a few questions I want to be answered during this match…

1. Who starts up top? I would say David Estrada and Sammy Ochoa, but don’t count out Maruo Rosales or Steve Zakuani up top either at some point.

2. Where do the foreign trialists like Phillip Lund, Djimi Traore and Shavar Thomas fit into the rotation?

3. What can our first Home Grown Player, Deandre Yedlin, bring to an aging back line

4. Where does first round SuperDraft pick Eriq Zavaleta play, and how well does he perform.

The event will be broadcast on mlssoccer.com or you can watch the embed here on our site starting in 30 minutes… replay will be available later.

Sounders FC XI: Hahnemann; Scott, Hurtado, Traore, Gonzalez; Rosales, Carrasco, Moloto, Zakuani; Estrada, Ochoa.
