Ryan Longwell takes over for Steven Hauschka, who and labored through last week with a calf injury.
Update January 9th: Ryan Longwell has been given the number “7” as he prepares to wear a Seahawks jersey for the first time in his NFL career. There are no current Seahawks wearing the number 8, which has been Longwell’s number since entering the league. I’m not sure if Matt Hasselbeck would approve anyways.
The Seahawks have made roster moves today by signing long time NFL veteran, Ryan Longwell. Longwell has not kicked at all this season, but he does however bring post-season experience to Seattle, as he previously played for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay was in the post-season in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004; and the Vikings in 2008 and 2009, all of which he was the kicker during that span of time. His career percentage is 82.2 (361-434).
Hauschka strained his left calf muscle in the second quarter of last weekend’s wild-card win over the Washington Redskins. He still however made all his kicking attempts, but punter Jon Ryan took over kickoff duties. Steven Hauschka‘s season percentage is 89.9 (24-27) with a long of 52-yards.
Shame for Hauschka who has been money all season long, but at least with him going on IR he still gets a Super Bowl ring.
This is the third “leg” related injury that occurred at FedEx Field, maybe it’s time the Redskins think of getting a new field for the safety of their own players and others. Just ask RG3, Chris Clemons, and Hauschka.
Now how weird would it be to see another number “8” out there this Sunday that played for the Seahawks!? Longwell has only worn that number since entering the NFL, and I don’t think the Seahawks have a current number 8 on their roster. Going to be interesting.
Welcome to Seattle, Longwell.
