Seattle Seahawks sign Frank Omiyale

Every time I think I’ve figured out who the Seahawks will pick with the 12th overall selection they sign a prominent player who plays that position and screw it all up. Today, that guy is Frank Omiyale, and that position is GuardTackle. I know there is no space in GuardTackle. I don’t care.

After cutting Robert Gallery (in pursuit of Steve Hutchinson) the team is left without a logical starting left guard for Week 1, as James Carpenter may be on the PUP list at that time.

Omiyale played with Tom Cable in Atlanta and has experience in a zone-blocking scheme. I don’t think that Omiyale’s signing necessarily means that the Seahawks don’t draft an offensive lineman in the first round, but it brings them closer and closer to drafting the best player available, and on its own that’s good news
