It’s pretty close to certain at this point that the Kings will stay in Sacramento. There is still a lot of steps in the team’s process to building a new arena, but the biggest, most important shoe dropped today.
For some this will seem to be the end of all excitement regarding the return of the Sonics. It is important to distinguish occurrences like this, where the city or a future ownership group has no control over the outcome, from Seattle’s own city council decisions, or the actions of a potential ownership group. We should be happy for Sacramento that they kept their team. They deserve it. Sure, we deserve a team too, but I personally would have felt worse about taking the Kings than pretty much any other potentially-available team.
This process was never going to be short, and it probably will never be over until it is successful. Buckle up. Remain optimistic.
