Live Husky Football signing day thread

UPDATE 3:56 PM PST: Jordan Payton is going to UCLA, he committed to UW last night, but will go play for Jim Mora and the Bruins. Cyler Miles remains a Husky commit, spurning USC along the way.

WR Jordan Payton wavering? – Payton made the call official yesterday….or so it seemed. Now all of a sudden rumors are swirling about his signing with UCLA. Washington does not have his LOI in, so in his case, it is not over til its over.

QB Cyler Miles wavering? – Miles has been open to courting from USC for quite some time, and apparently it has gone all the way down to crunch time. Miles will announce at about 1 PM which school he will sent his Letter of Intent to. It wouldn’t be a crippling lose for UW by any means, but would hurt none the less.

Cleveland Wallace a Dawg! – Officially announced, this is a huge get for Washington, in case Goforth or Brandon Beaver both decide on other schools. The Dawgs desperately need depth at corner, and Wallace provides that right away.

SIGNING DAY MORNING UPDATES

 – DB Devian Shelton has officially chosen USC
Pio Vatuvei is a Dawg
– Dawgs pick up surprising commitment from Taylor Hindy

Morning signing day storylines to follow

Dylan Cozens will announce at 9 a.m., choosing between Washington, Arizona and Boise State.
Randall Goforth will announce some time in the late afternoon around the same time that Beaver will. Goforth is an ASU soft commit, but has strong interest in UCLA and Washington. He visited UCLA last weekend.
– Washington could have interest in Junior College CB and Hawaii commit Ronald Fields. Interest in a Junior College kid this late in the process is curious as JC guys generally have a tough time getting admission into UW. This may be a fall back plan in case Beaver, Goforth and Wallace all go to Pac-12 rivals instead.
– Keep an eye on Dejon Allen. The one time ASU commit was backed off of by the new staff in Tempe, and has tentatively committed to Hawaii. He had interest in Washington upon his ASU de-commitment. He could be a surprise commit.
Pio Vatuvei could be a pleasant surprise for Husky fans. He’s a USC commit at the moment, but rumors are swirling he could go purple. Would be a nice get for the Huskies Defensive line.
– Washington seems like a long shot now for DB Devian Shelton, who will announce at 9 A.M. The Oregon State commit just received a USC offer, said to be his dream school. Shelton was also considering UCLA, Nebraska along with the Huskies.
– Will Washington lose Michael Rector to Stanford? This has been swirling around for a while, but nothing concrete has come out of it. We’ll see tomorrow whether Shaw or Sark gets his LOI. He is a UW commit at the moment.

Cleveland Wallace still in play at Washington? – Interesting piece here on some San Jose athletes who will signs their NLIs tomorrow, including Cleveland Wallace, stating that he will decide between Oregon State and Washington. Wallace has been solid to Oregon State for some time, and I figured he was a guy that Washington was out of the running for. Here is what the Oregonian’s Oregon State writer had to say to me about it.

RB/WR Kenny Walker makes the call – He will join Jim Mora at UCLA – Walker is yet another casualty for the Cal Golden Bears once prestigious but now scattered class of 2012. Washington made a strong late push at one point, even getting him to visit last weekend, and it seemed he would head here. A probable scenario was that the Mickens commitment made the skill positions at Washington a little too crowded for him, as they are similar players. Good luck to him under coach Mora.

Brandon Beaver to announce tomorrow afternoon – Beaver said on his twitter that he will be announcing tomorrow at 3:45 pm, which would be well after coach Sarkisian speaks publicly about most of his recruits that will have officially sent in their LOIs. Beaver is an interesting prospect and situation considering that a little over a week ago numerous recruiting outlets had him committed to the Huskies, a claim Beaver denied. Beaver has since tripped to Cal and Utah and spoke favorably of both trips. Through it all, the speculation is still that he will go to UW. He’s a good sized corner at 6-2 but needs to bulk up a little bit. Part of the allure of choosing UW would certainly be having the opportunity to compete for a starting job right away. Beaver is also speculated to be a package deal with his best friend at Dominguez HS, CB Alphonso Marsh. Marsh has taken trips recently to Utah, Washington State and Hawaii but has an outstanding offer from UW.

Update 7:38 pm Jaydon Mickens announces Washington – Mickens is going to attend the University of Washington. It has been an incredible 24 hour period for Washington in which they have now landed a five star, two four stars and a three star prospect according to Scout and Rivals ratings. Mickens could play a unique role in Washington’s offense as a scat back type player out of the back field or creating havoc as a slot receiver with defenses worrying so much about Kasen and Payton on the outside. I wouldn’t put it outside the realm of possibility that he redshirts either. Either way, Offensive Coordinator Eric Kiesau and Recruiting coordinator Tosh Lupoi are earning their money. Washington isn’t done yet, either.

Update 6:25 PM – Huskies have Mickens in the bag? This story from the Tulsa World seems to think that a last minute Oklahoma State scholarship offer to a local wide-out indicates that Mickens is not going to be signing with the Cowboys, meaning, he’d be a Dawg instead. Mickens will officially announce his decision at 7:30. Mickens is a little speedster, standing at 5-9. He could come in and play any number of positions from RB, WR to DB, but it’s most likely that Washington would be interested in using his speed on offense.

Update 5:00 pm – OT Shane Brostek is a Dawg. Multiple outlets are reporting that Shane’s father, former Husky Bern Brostek, has confirmed his son will follow his footsteps at UW

Update 1:38 PM – Jordan Payton makes the call – He’s a Dawg!! – Jordan Payton has committed to Washington. Payton was one of the many players to announce Cal at the Army All-American game but with Cal coaches Tosh Lupoi and Eric Kiesau heading to Montlake instead it made Payton re-evaluate. He visited Washington on an official visit two weeks ago when the Dawg Pack showed him love during the win over Stanford, and was with Shaq Thompson last weekend on an unofficial visit. Payton is a 6’2″ speedster and will have an opportunity to play right away presumably, competing with James Johnson and Kevin Smith.

Payton also hails from Oaks Christian HS, which can put to rest concerns that Nick Montana transferring might harm a UW pipeline there. He will join OT Erik Kohler at Washington, also an alum of the high school.

It will be interesting to see how this affects WR Jaydon Mickens’ decision, who will announce at 7:30 tonight, deciding between Washington and Oklahoma State

UPDATE 12:12 PM – Inglewood DB Devian Shelton, an Oregon State commit who was considering UW and UCLA has received a USC offer, said to be his dream school. Looks unlikely he goes purple.

Montlake bound #1 Safety in the country Shaq. Effing. Thompson

Welcome, Husky fans.

National Signing day is tomorrow, and there has already been a ton of news in the last 24 hours regarding recruiting on the west coast, and the next 24 hours promises to be even more insane. It’s hard to keep up, but I will do my best to collect all the information I have can find in to one place, here.

Here is what we know know.

Zach Banner has chosen to attend USC.
Shaq Thompson committed to Washington last night.
WR Cedric Dozier will be attending Cal
WR Michael Rector of Bellermine prep has not officially committed to Stanford, so this is one to watch.
WR Jaydon Mickens will announce his decision this afternoon between Washington and Oklahoma State.
WR Jordan Payton will announce his decision this afternoon between UCLA, Cal and Washington.

CB Brandon Beaver will announce sometime today or tomorrow between Utah, Cal and Washington.
Beaver might be a package deal with CB Alphonso Marsh, who seems to be favoring Utah and Washington State, but considering UW
WR/RB Kenny Walker was to decide yesterday, but needed more time. UCLA and UW are the favories.
DE Pio Vatuvei could flip from USC to UW today
OT Shane Brostek, who attends HS in Hawaii and is a son of a former Husky, has been tight lipped about his choice, but is said to be favoring Washington over Oregon. He also tripped to Hawaii.
Updates and links as they happen.
