Blake Beavan will make his debut on Sunday, bringing to completion the prospect parade from the Cliff Lee trade. Though Matt Lawson never played with the Mariners, he was traded to Cleveland for Aaron Laffey, who has effectively taken Lawson’s place in the parade.
Beavan is a tall righty with a low 90’s fastball and great control. He’s not unlike Doug Fister, and the comparisons are natural, and probably justified. It seems like Fister’s secondary offerings, which have improved this year, are probably better than Beavan’s.
It’s still exciting though, as it looked like either Beavan, or the return of Luke French to take the stop vacated when Erik Bedard went on the DL.
